Overnight oats soak in the fridge while you sleep, so breakfast is ready the second you open the door. Greek yogurt makes them creamy and adds protein, chia seeds thicken them up, and fresh berries and kiwi on top keep every jar bright. Make four at once and your weekday mornings are sorted.

## Ingredients

### Oats

- 2 cups large-flake rolled oats, about 180 g
- 2 cups milk, any kind
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 4 tsp chia seeds
- 2–3 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- pinch of salt
### Toppings

- 2 cups mixed berries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries
- 2 kiwis, peeled and sliced (optional)
- chopped nuts, seeds or nut butter (optional)

## Equipment

- 4 jars or containers with lids (about 250 ml each)
- Measuring cups

## Instructions

1. **Mix the oats.** In a bowl or large measuring cup, stir together the oats, milk, yogurt, chia seeds, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon and salt until no dry oats remain.
2. **Portion and chill.** Divide the mixture between 4 jars, cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight, until the oats are soft and creamy.
3. **Top and serve.** In the morning, give each jar a stir and add a splash of milk if the oats are too thick. Top with berries, kiwi and nuts. Eat cold, or warm in the microwave for 1-2 minutes if you prefer.

## Tips

- Use large-flake rolled oats. Quick oats turn mushy and steel-cut oats stay too firm without cooking.
- Add toppings in the morning so the fruit stays fresh and nuts stay crunchy.
- For gluten-free overnight oats, buy oats labelled gluten-free; regular oats are often cross-contaminated with wheat.

## Variations

- Peanut butter banana: stir in 1 tbsp peanut butter per jar and top with sliced banana.
- Apple pie: add grated apple, extra cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg.
- Vegan: use oat or soy milk, plant-based yogurt and maple syrup.

## Storage

- Fridge: Keep covered in the fridge for up to 4 days. Add fresh toppings just before eating.

### How long do overnight oats need to soak?

At least 6 hours in the fridge, or overnight. That gives the oats and chia seeds time to absorb the liquid and turn soft and creamy.

### Do you eat overnight oats cold?

Most people eat them cold straight from the fridge, but you can warm them in the microwave for 1-2 minutes, stirring halfway, if you prefer a warm breakfast.

### How long do overnight oats last?

Overnight oats keep for up to 4 days in a covered container in the fridge, which makes them ideal for weekday meal prep.

### Are overnight oats healthy?

Yes. Each jar has about 330 calories, 14 g of protein and 8 g of fibre from the oats, chia, yogurt and berries. Adjust the sweetener to taste.
