Easy Slow Cooker Recipes for Busy Days
A slow cooker turns a few minutes of morning prep into a tender, saucy dinner. Gentle, steady heat is perfect for chicken thighs, curries, beef stews, beans and lentil or vegetable soups that taste even better the next day.
Each recipe gives you both LOW and HIGH timings where they work, plus the food safety basics: start with thawed meat, keep the lid on, and cook poultry to 74°C (165°F).

Quick answer
Most slow cooker recipes cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or on HIGH for 3-4 hours. Use thawed (never frozen) meat, fill the pot one-half to two-thirds full, keep the lid closed, and check that chicken reaches 74°C (165°F) before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it better to cook on LOW or HIGH in a slow cooker?
LOW gives the most tender texture for chicken thighs and stews, and it is more forgiving if you are home late. HIGH works when you need dinner sooner. As a rule, 1 hour on HIGH is roughly 2 hours on LOW.
Can I put frozen chicken in a slow cooker?
No. Frozen meat can spend too long in the temperature danger zone as the slow cooker heats up. Thaw chicken in the fridge overnight before adding it.
Should I lift the lid while it cooks?
Try not to. Each time you lift the lid, the slow cooker loses heat and can need an extra 15-20 minutes to recover. Only stir when a recipe asks you to.
How full should a slow cooker be?
Aim for one-half to two-thirds full. Too little food can overcook and scorch, while an overfilled pot may not reach a safe temperature quickly enough.
